LayarHijau – Chinese actor Yu Menglong tragically fell to his death on September 11. Although police have officially ruled out homicide, speculation and rumors have continued to spread online. Disturbing claims of “torture” and “hidden ties” went viral, along with a so-called “17-person dinner list” that included actress Song Yiren, sparking heated public discussion.
Yu was a student of Song Zude, a controversial figure in China’s entertainment industry known as both a producer and commentator, often stirring public debate with his outspoken remarks. Song Zude posted on Weibo condemning the mainstream media’s silence as “sinister” and blaming it on hidden forces. However, his post disappeared just five minutes after being published.
After many days of silence, Song Yiren finally spoke out through her lawyer. In an official statement, the lawyer emphasized that a large amount of false information had recently surfaced on platforms such as Weibo, Xiaohongshu, and Douyin, deliberately linking Song Yiren to Yu Menglong’s death. Some of the fabricated claims even accused her of being a “murderer,” “procuring drinking companions,” “fleeing abroad,” and even “pimping.” The statement said such accusations had severely damaged her reputation and public image.
Song Yiren rose to fame through several popular dramas, including Legend of Fuyao (扶摇), Ever Night (将夜), and The Bond (乔家的儿女). These roles cemented her reputation as a talented young actress with a strong fan base both in China and internationally, World Journal reported.
The lawyer further revealed that evidence collection had already been completed, and two Weibo users responsible for spreading the false rumors were identified. A civil lawsuit will be filed against them. “It is truly regrettable that this person has passed away. Please respect the deceased and stop fabricating or spreading false rumors,” the lawyer appealed in the statement.
This firm stance triggered a wide online reaction. Many netizens expressed support for Song Yiren’s decision to defend herself, while others questioned whether the full truth had yet been revealed. As a result, the controversy only continued to escalate.
Meanwhile, veteran entertainers also weighed in. After Daniel Chan posted a message that was suspected to have been deleted by authorities, Hong Kong singer Jenny Tseng expressed her frustration on social media. She wrote bitterly: “This is a ridiculous generation, and they are bringing about their own destruction.” She also left a series of comments, including, “I can’t change it, I feel helpless,” and, “Wherever you open it, the result is the same. It is unjust for the mainland to do nothing! This is an international joke.”
