Yet the case has raised many questions, as police have yet to release an official statement with detailed information. Instead, the only public note came from Yu Menglong’s studio, whose obituary mentioned that “police have ruled out criminal suspicion.” That brief remark fueled further speculation online, sparking conspiracy theories and heated discussions across social media.

As speculation intensified, Weibo issued its first crackdown report on September 14. The platform stressed that even after police had already ruled out criminal activity, some users continued to spread malicious rumors and deliberately stir public opinion for traffic. According to the statement, Weibo has removed more than 4,300 violating posts and images, and suspended or permanently shut down over 60 accounts.
Still, the public continues to question why police have not spoken directly to clarify the situation. Many netizens commented, “Why don’t the police speak for themselves?” and “This only makes rumors spread even faster.” As of the early hours of September 15, authorities have yet to provide an official response, leaving Yu Menglong’s sudden passing shrouded in mystery.
