The Prisoner of Beauty: Song Zuer Reveals Liu Yuning’s Dedication on Set

LayarHijau.com — The popularity of the costume drama The Prisoner of Beauty has been soaring since its premiere. One of the biggest standouts is Liu Yuning, who plays the male lead, Wei Shao. Although he was initially ridiculed as an “ugly man in costume dramas” on the day of the premiere, Liu Yuning’s popularity has since surged thanks to the strength of the plot, his character, and his acting. The singer-turned-actor, who has only been in the industry for six years, has quickly risen to become one of the top male stars, thanks to his own hard work.

Recently, Song Zuer — his co-star in the same drama — shared her firsthand experience of Liu Yuning’s dedication on set. In an interview, Song Zuer revealed that Liu Yuning never played on his phone or even held a script while on set. Instead, he actively helped other actors prepare for their scenes. He appeared to completely isolate himself from the outside world and fully immerse himself in the role of Wei Shao. Interestingly, Song Zuer is not the first actor to praise Liu Yuning’s professionalism in this way.

According to a report by World Journal, Liu Yuning always memorizes all his lines before filming. During the production of The Prisoner of Beauty, he completed intense martial arts scenes during the day and continued memorizing lines until the early morning — even after doing three-hour live streams at night. On average, he got less than four hours of sleep per day. This work style freed him from needing to rely on the script on set, allowing him to focus more on emotional expression and character interactions.

His extreme dedication was even described by his co-stars as “treating the filming set like a training ground.” Liu Yuning’s professional attitude has indirectly served as a slap in the face to many young actors today who often don’t memorize their lines.

In one of his live broadcasts, Liu Yuning once said, “I love every role I have played, and I am grateful for every role I encounter. Especially after finishing a role and experiencing that character’s life, I love the role even more.”
