LayarHijau—As the Lunar New Year approaches, competition among holiday films is heating up at the box office. Amid the surge of established intellectual properties (IPs) like YOLO and Pegasus 3, director Han Yan surprisingly launched the film Per Aspera Ad Astra (星河入夢), starring Dylan Wang and Victoria Song. The film attempts to carve a niche in the most competitive release schedule by relying on 150 costume sets and a distinctive cyberpunk visual aesthetic.
Per Aspera Ad Astra has opened ticket pre-sales and released the “Dream within a Dream” trailer, revealing new plot clues. The trailer begins with an emergency crisis involving a spaceship explosion, forcing Biao Ge (played by Dylan Wang) and Si Meng (played by Victoria Song) to enter the dreams of others. They embark on a thrilling adventure to track down the mastermind behind all the chaos.
The Per Aspera Ad Astra poster immediately went viral on social media upon release. Dylan Wang appears with blue hair and cyber-work attire, holding a laser gun, while Victoria Song sports Y2K smokey eye makeup against an interstellar background. The visual package, created using CINITY, China Giant Screen, and 4DX formats, perfectly interprets director Han Yan’s “maximalist aesthetic.” The dual-look of the main characters, oscillating between spy outfits and space suits, successfully appeals to the aesthetic sensibilities of Generation Z. This action-fantasy film, dubbed by the industry as a “cool film specifically for young people,” is highly anticipated as a potential dark horse to save the Lunar New Year box office period.
The production team revealed that Biao Ge, played by Dylan Wang as the “Administrator of Beautiful Dreams,” has 23 costume sets, ranging from cute work clothes to tough armor. Meanwhile, Captain Si Meng, played by Victoria Song, switches between a retro Hong Kong style and a futuristic warrior look. Victoria Song’s battle suit, with its dopamine color clash, has even sparked a trend on platforms like Xiaohongshu.
Furthermore, the film offers novelty in its action design. Victoria Song’s fight scenes were praised by the martial arts choreographer as a “combination of strength and beauty.” In one parkour scene wearing high heels between skyscrapers, she had to repeat the wirework sequence up to 27 times. Meanwhile, Dylan Wang took on the challenge of massive underwater action scenes. To showcase the effect of weightlessness, he had to immerse himself in the swimming pool for 12 full days. These behind-the-scenes details, revealed through special features, have further excited fans of the “Di Xin Yin Li” pairing (Dylan Wang-Victoria Song).
