LayarHijau — The most anticipated colossal comedy drama, How Dare You!? (成何體統), finally premiered today (6/6). Starring Wang Churan and Cheng Lei, the series immediately garnered significant attention on social media, registering over 3.5 million pre-orders and being dubbed the strongest period comedy of the early spring season.
How Dare You!? is adapted from the novel of the same name by author Qi Ying Jun, featuring a unique core story: dual transmigration from the modern world into a fictional novel. Wang Churan portrays Wang Cuihua, an office worker who transmigrates into the novel Transmigrated into a Book: The Devil’s Beloved Concubine (穿書之惡魔寵妃) and becomes Yu Wanyin, a wicked concubine destined for execution.
On the verge of death, she is surprised to discover that the cruel tyrant emperor, Xia Houdan (Cheng Lei), is actually Zhang San—a CEO from the modern era who had transmigrated just two hours earlier. As soon as their identities are exposed, the pair immediately allies to face the palace intrigues with dramatic flair, fiercely struggling to survive in this fictional world.
The most hilarious scene revealed in the trailer is the moment Yu Wanyin and Xia Houdan recognize each other as being from the modern era. They do not use heirloom pendants or secret codes, but rather broken English dialogue. When Yu Wanyin utters, “How are you?” Xia Houdan instinctively replies, “Fine, thank you, and you?” This hilarious moment successfully sent the audience into fits of laughter.
Wang Churan revealed that the series’ script is vastly different from any transmigration work she has previously watched. Besides the iconic “How are you” scene and the palace banquet, she recalls one of her favorite early filming moments. “Everyone focuses on my glamorous costumes, but for me, the most unforgettable was the appearance when I played a small soldier. I even glued a fake mustache on my face,” she shared.
Furthermore, the chemistry between Wang Churan and Cheng Lei is evident not only on camera but also behind the scenes. When asked about Cheng Lei’s favorite food, Wang Churan readily named changfen (stuffed rice rolls) and a fruit yogurt bowl. When it was Cheng Lei’s turn, he joked that Wang Churan enjoys all types of food. “Am I someone who eats that much?” Wang Churan protested playfully, which Cheng Lei immediately countered with, “Please, a little self-awareness, okay?” This visible rapport and mutual teasing have further spotlighted the pair leading up to the premiere of How Dare You!?.
