LayarHijau— Netflix has been packed with high-profile anime throughout 2025, from The Summer Hikaru Died to Sakamoto Days. Even so, the streaming giant seems to be saving one of its most promising titles for the final day of the year.
Netflix Anime recently announced that the film 100 METERS will debut on Netflix on December 31, with exclusive availability in North America.
The movie adapts the first manga by Uoto, the creator behind On the Movements of the Earth. With Uoto’s other adaptation Orb receiving strong praise on Netflix during 2024 and 2025, expectations for 100 METERS have skyrocketed.
Produced by the new studio Rock ’n’ Roll Mountain, the film premiered in Japan back in September. It currently boasts a 100% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes — based on 14 reviewers — and a 92% audience score from over 50 ratings. Those numbers suggest that fans and critics alike are embracing the film’s impact.
Netflix’s trailer highlights a visually fluid sports drama driven by raw ambition and emotional determination, reminiscent of acclaimed anime like Ping Pong: The Animation.
100 METERS did have a short theatrical run in the U.S. via GKids in October. However, it remains unclear whether Netflix will stream that English-dubbed version. Since the trailer posted by Netflix is entirely in Japanese, viewers may only get a subtitled release at launch.
With its grounded storytelling and distinct style, 100 METERS stands apart from the action-heavy shonen titles that often dominate the service. Sometimes, the thoughtful and introspective projects end up leaving the deepest mark.
If early buzz is any indication, Netflix could be closing out 2025 with a major win. For anyone who loves sports dramas with heart, 100 METERS looks like a must-watch to end the year.
