LayarHijau – Hong Kong actor William Chan (陳偉霆) recently surprised the public by announcing, without prior notice, that he has officially become a father. The mother of his child is reported to be Chinese supermodel He Sui (何穗), who has long been rumored to be his girlfriend. This happy news marks a new high point in both his career and personal life. Yet William Chan’s journey to this point was far from easy.
According to Hong Kong 01, William first came into the public eye in 2003 when he participated in the New Talent Singing Awards Hong Kong Regional, where he drew attention and won several awards. This competition became the first step into the entertainment industry, even though major fame did not come immediately.
In 2005, William was rumored to be in a relationship with Angelababy after they worked together on a children’s program. They kept their relationship private until it ended in 2009 after four years. One version says Angelababy went to Japan to further her career, while another version points to the involvement of actor Huang Xiaoming as a factor in their breakup.
When the rumors surfaced, Huang Xiaoming responded coldly, saying, “I don’t know who William Chan is.”
This statement became widely reported in Hong Kong media, turning William into the subject of public ridicule. He was even labeled as having “zero popularity” and reportedly withdrew from the public eye for almost two years due to the pressure.
William’s life took a dramatic turn after he moved to Mainland China in 2013. Through popular series such as Swords of Legends (古劍奇譚), The Four (少年四大名捕), and The Mystic Nine (老九門), his career skyrocketed, establishing him as one of the most prominent actors of his generation.
This year, William drew renewed attention with the romantic drama alongside Zhao Lusi (赵露思) titled Love’s Ambition (许我耀眼), which officially premiered on September 25, 2025, on Tencent Video and aired on Dragon TV starting September 28, 2025. The series portrays a story of love intertwined with ambition and past wounds, quickly becoming a hot topic among audiences in China.
In a reality show interview on Fairy Tale (童話), William recalled the difficult early days of his career. He admitted feeling deeply down at times, even approaching depression. “Back then, I often asked myself if I truly belonged in this world,” he said candidly.
However, his persistence and consistency changed everything. In 2017, William made it onto the Forbes China Celebrity 100 list, ranking 21st with earnings of 120 million yuan (approximately IDR 277 billion). He even surpassed big names such as Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung, and Eason Chan, as well as his agency colleague Nicholas Tse.
From someone once mocked as “unknown,” William Chan has now become a major star in Asia and a father ready to embrace a new chapter of life with He Sui.
