Authorities initially ruled the case as a “fall under the influence of alcohol,” and it was closed within just 12 hours, raising public doubts that the cause of death might not be so straightforward.
Following the news of his death, rumors circulated on social media claiming that Song Yiren was responsible for inviting Yu Menglong to a gathering. In response to these allegations, Song Yiren finally spoke out through her legal representatives. In an official statement, her lawyers emphasized that in recent days, many false claims had appeared on platforms like Weibo, Xiaohongshu, and Douyin, deliberately linking Song Yiren to Yu Menglong’s death. Some posts even made extreme accusations, labeling her a “murderer,” “drinking companion provider,” “fleeing abroad,” or “procurer.” Her lawyers stressed that these accusations had seriously damaged Song Yiren’s reputation and public image.

Evidence related to these false claims has been collected, including the names of two Weibo users who spread the defamatory content, and Song Yiren plans to file a civil lawsuit in the near future.
“It is truly regrettable that someone has passed away. Please respect the deceased and stop spreading false rumors,” her lawyers wrote in the statement.
Despite her denial of the allegations, Song Yiren’s name remained in the spotlight and became a target of online criticism. The consequences became apparent when her new drama reportedly recast her role, with many netizens praising the decision as a “wise move.”
Some reports indicate that the role she was originally slated to play was withdrawn. Investors, concerned about audience reactions, reportedly hesitated to cast her, and even competent male leads were unwilling to work alongside her.
