LayarHijau – On Sunday (September 21), Sohu Entertainment reported that the official Weibo account of “Safe Beijing Chaoyang,” run by the Chaoyang Public Security Bureau, released an official statement regarding the death of actor Yu Menglong. The announcement detailed the results of the investigation and the legal actions taken against individuals who fabricated and spread false information online.
According to the statement, since the launch of the “Clean Internet 2025” campaign, authorities have been cracking down on online rumors to safeguard the digital environment. The latest case addressed involved widespread misinformation that appeared following Yu’s (male, 37 years old) accidental fall and death from a hotel.
Police said that certain individuals deliberately spread fake stories to attract attention and traffic, even producing fabricated videos that disrupted public order. Three individuals have been taken into custody and placed under legal measures.

Zheng (female, 40 years old)
Zheng fabricated the claim that “Yu was forced into unspoken rules by powerful figures, was assaulted after getting drunk, and jumped after being humiliated.” She spread these statements in trending topic comment sections, creating significant social impact.
Yuan (female, 29 years old)
Yuan spread multiple false claims through several online accounts, including that “Yu’s fingernails were pried open, his abdomen was cut, and he was thrown alive from the building.” These rumors were made for attention and clicks, causing emotional harm to Yu’s family and creating negative social consequences.
Xu (female, 41 years old)
Xu fabricated and circulated rumors such as “Yu’s mother and younger sister are now under control by certain forces.” Shared through her personal accounts, these claims spread widely online and produced adverse impact.
All three individuals have confessed to fabricating rumors and are now under compulsory measures according to the law. Police also noted that other rumors, including claims that “Yu was pushed out of a window,” “Yu was tortured before falling,” and “Yu’s mother was violently evicted,” are also being addressed in accordance with the law.
Authorities emphasized that following Yu’s fall, they immediately conducted investigations including on-site inspections, forensic examinations, review of surveillance footage, and witness interviews. The investigation ruled out criminal suspicion. The results were communicated to Yu’s family, who raised no objections.
The police urged the public not to believe or spread rumors, to respect the privacy and wishes of Yu’s family, and to avoid causing secondary harm. They stressed that those who create and disseminate false information will be investigated and punished according to law.
