LayarHijau – On September 11, actor Yu Menglong suddenly became a trending topic on Chinese social media after rumors spread that he had fallen from a building in Beijing. As of now, Yu Menglong’s side has not issued any official response to the speculation.
A reporter from Sanxiang Metropolis Daily tried to verify the rumor by contacting several police stations in Beijing’s Chaoyang District. Officers at the Changying Police Station said they had not received any related reports. However, when the reporter mentioned the name Yu Menglong, an officer at the Jiuxianqiao Police Station immediately responded, “You’re asking about Yu Menglong, right?” and directed them to the Jiangtai Police Station, where no one answered. Attempts to reach the Chaoyang District Public Security Bureau also went unanswered.
Meanwhile, another media outlet quoted a friend of Yu Menglong, who said he was shocked by the circulating rumor. “I tried calling him but his phone was switched off. I sent him a message on WeChat but got no reply. His WeChat Moments haven’t been updated for days,” the friend revealed. He added that the last time he contacted Yu Menglong was on his birthday, June 15. “I wished him a happy birthday and he replied as usual. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I really hope to get in touch with his family soon to find out the truth,” he said as reported by Sohu.
On the same day, a property staff member at a residential complex in Beijing confirmed that someone had indeed fallen from Building 18 that morning. Some netizens claimed the victim was a well-known male actor and alleged that Yu Menglong once lived in the same complex. However, it has not been confirmed whether the victim was actually Yu Menglong.
When contacted, a staff member at the Jiangtai Police Station under the Chaoyang Public Security Bureau only said, “The details cannot be disclosed to the public for now. Please wait for an official announcement.”
Yu Menglong’s actress colleague Xing Fei, who co-starred with him in the 2020 costume drama The Moon Brightens for You (明月曾照江东寒), also reacted to the news. In a post on her personal account, she wrote, “I hope it’s not true!! It must not be true!!” which many believed was in response to the rumors.
Yu Menglong was born on June 15, 1988, in Urumqi, Xinjiang. A graduate of the Beijing Academy of Performing Arts, he is known as an actor, singer, and MV director. Business records on Tianyancha show he previously established two studios—Shanghai Qimeng Film and Television Culture Studio and Dongyang Xianmeng Film and Television Culture Studio. Both have since been deregistered, though they were registered under his name and held several trademarks related to “Yu Menglong.”
As of now, neither Yu Menglong’s representatives nor local authorities have released an official statement to confirm or deny the rumors.
