LayarHijau – Chinese actress Zhang Yuxi, known for her roles in Love and Redemption (琉璃) and Intense Love (韞色過濃), has once again captured public attention after joining Ride the Wind 2024 (乘風2024). With her delicate features and petite face, she’s often praised as having the perfect “TV drama look.” But behind the glamorous image, Zhang revealed a painful memory from her teenage years that left fans deeply moved.
During a recent livestream, Zhang Yuxi shared a shocking incident from her high school days, where she was violently bullied after turning down a boy’s romantic confession.
“I rejected a boy who confessed his feelings to me, and in retaliation, he gathered a group of other boys. They waited for me outside the school gates, surrounded me, and took turns kicking my legs,” Zhang recalled. “The white pants I wore that day were covered in dirt and shoe prints.”
What struck many viewers was the calm and even playful tone Zhang used while recounting such a traumatic event. She said she didn’t fight back at all and even deliberately fell to the ground while being kicked, hoping to de-escalate the situation.
“I didn’t resist because I didn’t want the situation to get worse,” she explained.
Fortunately, a local shop owner nearby witnessed the assault and intervened. The woman threatened to call the police, prompting the attackers to flee the scene.
Despite the serious nature of the incident, Zhang told the story with a hint of humor. “Maybe I was bullied because I was too beautiful,” she joked. “I was mad, but it honestly didn’t hurt that much.” She even questioned the future prospects of her attackers, saying, “With emotional intelligence like that, how are they ever going to find a wife?”
While Zhang seemed lighthearted, viewers were quick to express their emotional reactions. “She told it with a smile, but we were crying listening to it,” one comment read. Others called it what it was—severe school bullying—and condemned the violent response to romantic rejection. “Rejecting someone isn’t a crime, and no one deserves to be treated like that,” wrote another user. “Being pretty should never be a reason to be targeted.”
The incident also reminded netizens of another difficult moment in Zhang’s past. In 2015, while participating in the reality show Grade One (一年級), a male contestant publicly confessed his feelings to her. Even after being rejected, he continued to pursue her relentlessly. Zhang eventually withdrew from the show, reportedly due to the stress and unwanted attention. Many fans now see that moment as a painful repetition of the bullying she experienced as a student.
Zhang’s story has sparked renewed conversations online about bullying, emotional boundaries, and the pressures young women face—especially when their appearance or personal choices make them targets. Fans and commentators alike are urging for more awareness, empathy, and respect when it comes to both romantic boundaries and personal safety.
