LayarHijau– On July 15, 2025, the coming-of-age drama Our Generation (樱桃琥珀) held a fan event in Beijing, attended by its two leads, Zhang Linghe and Zhao Jinmai. The duo appeared together to promote the drama, delighting fans with their natural chemistry and heartfelt reflections on their characters. The event was covered by Sohu Entertainment.
Our Generation premiered on July 14, 2025, on Youku, and is also streaming internationally via Netflix, Viki and Viu. The 24-episode drama is adapted from the novel Ying Tao Hu Po by Yun Zhu. Set in the 1990s, the story follows Lin Qile (played by Zhao Jinmai), a cheerful and spirited girl from a mountain town, and her evolving relationship with Jiang Qiaoxi (played by Zhang Linghe), a quiet math prodigy. What begins as a simple friendship gradually blossoms into something deeper, framed within a heartwarming tale of youth, family, and self-discovery.
During the event’s interview session, Zhao Jinmai shared that while this was their second time working together, the characters they played were completely different from their previous drama. Zhang Linghe added that the contrast in roles made filming especially enjoyable, allowing both actors to take on characters unlike any they had portrayed before.
The pair also revealed the meaning behind Lin Qile’s name. Zhao noted that only her character pronounces the final syllable of her name with emphasis, unlike everyone else. “It shows how confident and proud she is of her name,” Zhao explained. “Her mother loved cherries when she was pregnant with her, so the name is filled with love.” Zhang added, “Red cherries are like the sun—warm and energetic. It fits Qile, who lights up everyone around her.”
The fan event was filled with adorable moments. Zhao and Zhang performed a cheer dance to the show’s theme song, drawing cheers from the audience. Zhang joked that his movements looked like “an old man doing rehab.” Later, he fed Zhao a traditional date-filled mantou, and she returned the favor by helping him apply lipstick. They also reenacted one of the drama’s signature lines, creating waves of laughter and excitement among fans.
