LayarHijau.com – The Chinese drama Feud (临江仙), starring Bai Lu and Joseph Zeng, recently reached an intense emotional climax. However, just as audiences were fully immersed in the storyline, the production team announced a major change to the release schedule. After a two-day pause on June 16 and 17, the series will now air only one episode per day starting June 18. This sudden shift has sparked strong protests from viewers who feel their emotional momentum has been abruptly interrupted.
Producer Yu Zheng publicly admitted that post-production work is behind schedule. “Only 25 episodes are completed so far. The rest are still in post-production. It’s my fault for being too slow. I’m sorry,” he said in a statement reported by Upmedia. It was also revealed that Feud was originally planned for a July release. However, streaming platform iQiyi decided to launch it early, before editing work had been finalized. On top of that, the episode count was cut from 40 to 32 to pass content censorship, which further complicated the production timeline.
This led to outrage among netizens, many questioning how a show could have passed censorship when it wasn’t fully completed. Others speculated that this excuse was simply a tactic to delay the final episodes and prolong the drama’s popularity by holding back the ending.
In the latest episodes, the drama reveals the tragic backstory of Hua Ruyue, played by Bai Lu. Ten years prior, her spiritual powers were sealed by her own husband, Bai Jiusi (played by Joseph Zeng). Stripped of her powers, Hua Ruyue could only watch helplessly as her son and student died during an attack by villagers. Her son died young, and Hua Ruyue herself was burned alive for several days by people who mistook her for a monster. Yet, being a divine being, she couldn’t die and could only endure the unbearable pain.
In the present timeline, Bai Jiusi encounters the Ancient God of Time, who allows him to witness the past. He comes to realize that all the suffering Hua Ruyue endured was a direct result of his own actions. He’s forced to relive every devastating moment but cannot change anything—only watch, kneel in agony, weep uncontrollably, and cough up blood. The emotional performances of Bai Lu and Joseph Zeng have deeply moved audiences, who are now eager to see how the story unfolds and who the mysterious figure is that once helped Hua Ruyue collect her son’s soul.
Unfortunately, the pacing of the plot has now been disrupted by the slower release schedule, frustrating fans even further.
