LayarHijau.com — The upcoming historical drama Rebirth, starring rising actress Huangyang Tian Tian and actor Li Yunrui, may face uncertainty after Chinese authorities confirmed an investigation into the actress’s father. The case, originally triggered by public concern over a pair of luxury earrings reportedly worth around USD 300,000, has since expanded into a broader probe of possible misconduct during his time as a public official.
Rebirth serves as the long-awaited sequel to the 2017 hit series Princess Agents, which starred Zhao Liying and Lin Gengxin. The original drama followed a female warrior’s survival and resistance during a chaotic era. In the new installment, Huangyang Tian Tian and Li Yunrui portray new protagonists in the same fictional universe, continuing the legacy with fresh characters and a new storyline. Filming for Rebirth wrapped up in April 2025.
However, with the investigation into Huangyang’s father making headlines, Chinese netizens have begun speculating about the potential fallout for the drama.
One Weibo user commented:
“Even if Huangyang Tian Tian’s father is under investigation, that’s his own issue. It shouldn’t affect the drama unless there’s proof of her involvement.”
Another wrote:
“We fans can only hope that she’s innocent and the drama will air normally. We’ll wait for the day the truth is revealed.”
Still, not everyone shares the same optimism:
“No matter what happens, this scandal could already damage her career. Rebirth might not even make it to the screen.”
According to Xinhua News Agency, Huangyang’s father, Yang, is being investigated for allegedly engaging in business activities while holding a civil service position and for concealing the illegal birth of a second child — both of which could violate Chinese regulations. Authorities stated that although he was not involved in post-disaster reconstruction funds or charitable donations, he is suspected of other regulatory violations, and a formal case has been opened.
As of now, neither Huangyang Tian Tian nor the Rebirth production team has issued a public response regarding the situation or its possible implications for the show’s release.
In China’s entertainment industry, even minor scandals—especially those involving family members—can lead to production delays or cancellations. While no official action has been taken against Rebirth, the public remains divided on whether the controversy will ultimately derail the drama’s broadcast.
For now, fans and industry watchers alike are keeping a close eye on developments, waiting to see whether the show will be allowed to move forward or become the latest casualty of off-screen drama.
