According to comments on Weibo, Xiao Qiao’s uncle, Qiao Yue, decides to side with Liu Yan. Liu Yan’s forces capture Da Qiao to force Bi Zhi to turn against Wei Shao.
In the end, Da Qiao chooses to commit suicide by jumping from the city walls because she cannot bear to see Bi Zhi fight against his own brother-in-law. She says to Bi Zhu: “Bi Zhu, you are my lover, not a fighting beast controlled by others. If you think back on today, remember that I never regret it.”
After saying this, Da Qiao jumps off the city wall. Bi Zhu runs to catch her but is too late, forced to watch his beloved die tragically before his eyes. This emotionally charged and heartbreaking scene brought many viewers to tears.
The second heart-wrenching death is that of Wei Liang. Wei Liang (played by Wang Chengsi) is one of Wei Shao’s loyal followers. Qiao Yue — who at that time was the governor of Yanzhou — feels threatened by his brother’s moves, suspecting that Qiao Ping intends to overthrow him and seize power. That’s why he decides to side with Liu Yan.
At that time, Wei Shao was facing a major war against enemy forces. Qiao Yue and several others believed Wei Shao would lose. When Qiao Yue aligned with Liu Yan, Yanzhou automatically fell under Liu Yan’s control. In the final battle against Liu Yan, Liu Yan’s forces were ultimately defeated by the Wei army. There is no story about Da Qiao being captured by Liu Yan to force Bi Zhi to fight Wei Shao — so in the novel, Da Qiao does not jump to her death.
In fact, Da Qiao and Bi Zhi even have a son who is a few years older than Fei Fei, Xiao Qiao’s daughter. In one of the closing scenes, Wei Shao, having defeated Liu Yan and punished Su E Huang, rushes back to reunite with his family.
