LayarHijau— A behind-the-scenes video from Love on the Turquoise Land has gone viral on Weibo, showing an amusing yet chaotic interaction between Dilraba Dilmurat and Oliver Chen Xingxu. The clip captures a scene where Dilraba’s character rescues Chen Xingxu’s character, who has been imprisoned in an underground mine.

In the video, Dilraba is dressed in black, standing next to Chen Xingxu who lies on the ground with long hair and a messy beard. Showing his mischievous personality, he jokes around by pointing at a corner and saying, “That’s my toilet.” He then proudly adds, “I haven’t showered for a month — the smell is amazing.”

Dilraba keeps trying to turn away and hold back her laughter as Chen continues his antics. At one point, while she’s distracted, he deliberately wipes his dirt-covered face and hair on her hand.

Once Dilraba realizes what he’s done, she looks around desperately for something to clean her hand with. Finding nothing, she ends up snapping at him in Korean: “You naughty brat!”

Some viewers commented that Chen Xingxu’s nonstop joking might be a sign of nerves before filming an intense emotional sequence. Others pointed out that the two are clearly more playful behind the scenes than their characters ever get to be on screen.

The contrast between the fun BTS and the drama’s dark storyline has brought renewed attention to Episode 24 — the underground rescue scene. The cheerful behind-the-scenes vibe only sharpens the frustration fans felt toward the broadcast version.

Love on the Turquoise Land remains the No.1 most-watched drama according to Maoyan, surpassing 300 million views. But viewers were upset that Episode 24 cut several highly anticipated scenes previously shown in trailers and leaked set footage. A storyline meant to deliver major emotional impact ended up only 32 minutes long — far shorter than the usual 45-minute runtime.

Chen Xingxu plays Yan Tuo, the male lead. Although raised by Lin Xiruo (Zhang Li), leader of the Earth Demon clan, he secretly cooperates with the Mount Nan Hunters. He holds deep hatred toward Lin Xiruo for causing his parents’ deaths and his sister’s disappearance.

Yan Tuo leaks confidential intel to the female lead Nie Jiuluo (Dilraba), and the two become lovers. But once his identity as a spy is exposed, Lin Xirou throws him into a pitch-black mine, severing him from the world. He is tortured for months — the once-dashing fighter reduced to a wounded, filthy, frostbitten wreck at rock bottom.

In Episode 24, Nie Jiuluo finally discovers him deep in the mine. In the novel, she fights an Earth Demon there and the reunion is intense and emotional — yet two crucial moments that had been marketed heavily were nowhere to be seen.

One omitted scene shows Nie Jiuluo and her partner Yu Rong (Cherry Ngan) battling a new Earth Demon variant. Yan Tuo, initially unable to meet Nie Jiuluo’s eyes out of shame, suddenly forces himself up and rams a mining cart into the monster to protect them.

Another deleted scene takes place after the rescue. Yan Tuo refuses to let Nie Jiuluo touch him, convinced he’s filthy and unworthy. He even avoids sitting near her in the vehicle. Angry and hurt, she fires back:

“Yan Tuo, if you won’t hold my hand now, then don’t you dare try to hold it later. Don’t come close and lean on me. Who exactly are you disgusted with?”

This sweet yet impactful relationship moment from the novel is entirely missing in the aired episode.

Fans know these scenes exist thanks to trailers and leaked footage. As for why they were cut, speculation suggests the fight might have been too graphic, or the supernatural creature design could have triggered censorship concerns. To keep the broadcast safe from regulatory trouble, producers may have chosen to trim anything deemed risky.

Several novel details have already been toned down. For example, the accidental early-stage kiss when the pair fall into water was removed. Another change: originally, Yan Tuo accidentally brushes Nie Jiuluo’s chest while trying to treat her wound — in the drama, Nie Jiuluo tears her own clothing instead. These choices show how cautious the production has been regarding potentially sensitive content.
