LayarHijau – WeTV has reinforced its ambition to lead the streaming entertainment market in Southeast Asia, placing Indonesia as one of the most strategic pillars in its long-term business roadmap. Speaking at the WeTV Always More 2026 showcase in Jakarta on Wednesday (Nov 26), company executives outlined plans that focus not only on user growth, but also on expanding investment in regional and local content development.
Jeff Han, Vice President of Tencent Video, highlighted that Indonesia’s rapid digital adoption strongly influences Tencent Video’s regional strategy.
“The expansion of Tencent Video in Southeast Asia stems from the understanding that this region is very dynamic and has an audience that craves digital entertainment. Among all the countries in the region, Indonesia shows the most significant performance. This potential is not only seen in user numbers, but also in the way Indonesian audiences respond to cross-country and local content,” said Jeff Han. He ensured that Indonesia will remain a long-term priority for the company.
Juan Xiang, Director of Tencent Video Overseas Business and Head of WeTV, emphasized that WeTV continues to strengthen its position as a top home for Asian premium entertainment — from C-dramas and Chinese animation to variety shows and original productions across Southeast Asia.
“Understanding local tastes is the foundation of WeTV’s content development. Operating in many countries allows our team to learn the strongest trends in each market. That knowledge is then shared with other Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand and Indonesia, opening more opportunities for new content,” Juan explained.
With consistent content performance and a growing community of viewers, WeTV aims to further solidify its presence as the entertainment platform of choice in Indonesia and the region.
WeTV Indonesia to Boost Local Originals
Indonesia continues to play a crucial role in WeTV’s content strategy, supported by a thriving creative ecosystem and talented local storytellers. According to Febriamy Hutapea, Country Head of WeTV Indonesia, partnerships with Indonesian creators will be further expanded.
“We see that WeTV’s strength in Indonesia is not only in premium content from abroad, but also in our ability to bring local stories with increasingly improved production quality. WeTV continues to grow through collaboration with brands, partners, and the entire ecosystem in producing local content,” said Febriamy Hutapea.
She added that WeTV is preparing to launch 10 new Indonesian original series starting in early 2026.
“Geographically, WeTV has reached audiences across Indonesia. Most users are still concentrated in Java, but significant growth is coming from regions outside Java such as Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Eastern Indonesia. WeTV is also very strong among young audiences, with 60% of our viewers being women,” she continued.
Supported by Indonesia’s fast-growing digital economy, increasing consumer purchasing power, and a competitive creative industry, WeTV is set to enhance its investments and strengthen creative alliances with local partners to deliver more high-quality Indonesian content to viewers at home and across Southeast Asia.
