LayarHijau – Chinese actor Liu Yuning, who rose to fame with hit dramas like A Journey of Love and The Story of Pearl Girl, is currently trending after addressing a distressing issue involving stalkers and obsessive fans, known as sasaengs.
The severity of the situation came to light during his latest livestream, where the actor and singer revealed he was forced to purchase pepper spray as a tool for personal defense. During the stream, Liu was abruptly called by a stalker, but he firmly refused to answer the call.
He asserted, “Answering that call will only make their bad habits worse. They are not qualified to speak to me.”
Despite encouragement from many fans to pick up the phone, Liu stood his ground. He added, sounding weary, “This is not the first time, nor will it be the last,” highlighting his deep frustration with the constant, invasive harassment.
Liu explained that by sharing snippets of his daily activities, such as recording sessions and gym workouts, the stalkers frequently wait for him at studios or private training facilities that are closed to the public. “Even going to the gym, I’m followed. Going for a walk, I’m followed. It feels very unpleasant,” he stated, which has ultimately forced him to reduce sharing his daily schedule with the public.
When fans suggested publishing the stalker’s phone number, Liu firmly rejected the idea. He clarified, “It would turn into cyberbullying of an ordinary person if the number were to be spread. The law is the last line of defense. If they break the law, then I will report them to the authorities.” For now, he opts for immediate self-protective measures such as refusing calls and deactivating his original phone number.
Liu’s safety has been directly threatened on multiple occasions. He recounted an experience in Xi’an where over 20 stalkers followed him while shopping, and another terrifying incident where he was spied on in a hotel by someone impersonating room staff. This perilous situation ultimately led him to purchase the pepper spray for self-protection.
Fans were quick to emphasize that the perpetrators are not true supporters. They condemned the behavior as “cheap and deviant,” urging respect for Liu Yuning’s privacy and calling for the actor to be given space to breathe.
