In the short video, Li Yunrui was seen getting out of a car with his assistant before waiting for the assistant to leave. He then appeared to take the elevator from his eighth-floor residence to the twelfth floor, which the narrator claimed was Meng Ziyi’s apartment. The report spread rapidly, drawing intense reactions from Weibo users. Many recalled their on-screen partnership in Blossom (2024), saying their chemistry had felt “too natural to be just acting.”
“People already guessed since Blossom aired that they’d end up like Song Mo and Dou Zhao — secretly in love and finally together,” wrote one netizen. Another comment read, “This time it’s really sweet. The way they interact looks genuine, not staged.”
However, just hours after the video went viral, both artists’ studios released clarifications. Meng Ziyi’s and Li Yunrui’s teams each denied the rumor through Weibo posts, attaching screenshots from the gossip video with the large red Chinese character “假” (fake) printed over them.
Interestingly, the denials themselves triggered even more discussion. Many found the nearly identical response styles from both studios amusing. “It’s hard to tell what’s real. Lots of couples denied it before and ended up dating for real,” one user joked. Another comment said, “As long as they’re single and there’s no third party, why can’t they be close? Don’t regret it when you’re old.”
Some Weibo users even misread the character “假” (fake) as “囍” (the double happiness symbol used for weddings in Chinese culture) and teased that the two actors were “secretly married.” The humorous reactions made the topic even more popular in the comment sections.
