The Prisoner of Beauty: Liu Yuning Talks About His Role and Working with Song Zuer

LayarHijau.com – The costume romance drama The Prisoner of Beauty (折腰), starring Song Zuer, Liu Yuning, Xuan Lu, and Liu Duanduan, is currently airing and attracting a lot of attention. Adapted from Peng Laike’s novel of the same name, the story follows the love and sacrifices between Xiao Qiao and Wei Shao after their marriage unites two families.

Liu Yuning, who plays Wei Shao, describes his character as a smart and ambitious leader with a soft side who is deeply loyal to Xiao Qiao. He calls Xiao Qiao a “top-level charm demon” who captivates everyone, while Wei Shao is “stubborn but gentle,” as well as a “jealous king” who constantly protects their relationship.

Liu Yuning shared that he was immediately drawn to the role of Wei Shao because of the character’s complexity. According to him, Wei Shao is not only strong and decisive but also has deep emotional layers. “I felt this role was challenging because I had to portray the duality between power and tenderness, along with a steadfast and sincere love. Wei Shao is like a king who can be cold but very protective of the one he loves,” Liu Yuning explained to Sohu.

He added that his character’s emotional range needed to be carefully balanced to avoid being over the top while still touching the audience. His real-life experiences helped him understand and bring Wei Shao’s role to life.

Working with Song Zuer

Liu Yuning praised Song Zuer, nicknamed the “Queen of Sweetness” on set for her charming and warm personality. He said her professional acting skills created genuine on-screen chemistry. “She was able to fool me with her intense gaze, even though she knew exactly what I was feeling,” Liu Yuning laughed.

Their collaboration was harmonious and full of positive energy, making the filming atmosphere enjoyable and their characters’ relationship feel authentic.

A Modern Take on The Prisoner of Beauty

Beyond the original drama, Liu Yuning shared an interesting idea about how The Prisoner of Beauty could be adapted to a modern setting. In his version, the story would revolve around a business marriage between two conglomerate families trying to save their companies through a marriage alliance. What starts as a formal agreement gradually grows into true love, following the classic “married first, love later” theme. “It’s a story very relevant and relatable to many people,” he said.

Audience Response and Self-Rating

Since its release, The Prisoner of Beauty has received warm responses, especially for the lead actors’ chemistry and the depth of their characters. Liu Yuning gave himself a performance score of 80 out of 100 and expressed happiness seeing the appreciation and support from viewers. He feels this experience is rewarding and motivates him to keep improving his craft.

The Prisoner of Beauty is a successful costume romance drama that brings a classic story with a modern twist, supported by Liu Yuning’s mature acting and strong chemistry with Song Zuer. For fans of romantic dramas filled with emotion, this series is a must-watch.
