LayarHijau.com — After previously being delayed due to Song Zuer’s alleged tax evasion scandal, the historical drama The Prisoner of Beauty is once again facing a similar issue—this time involving veteran actress Liu Xiaoqing, who plays Lady Xu, grandmother of Wei Shao (portrayed by Liu Yuning).
Liu came under the spotlight after a man named Mr. Wang from Shenzhen filed a report accusing her of tax evasion. The Shanghai Tax Bureau has accepted the report and launched an investigation.
She is suspected of disguising personal income of 3.3 million yuan as an “image endorsement fee” through her small company, Shanghai Yixi Culture Media Center. By doing this, she was only taxed 6%, instead of the 27% required for personal income tax.
Mr. Wang also claimed the company has no real office, no employees, and no social security contributions—suggesting it may be a shell company created to evade taxes.
This isn’t Liu’s first run-in with tax authorities. In 2002, she served 422 days in detention due to a tax case. At the time, she famously stated, “Tax evasion is not the end of the world. As long as I’m not shot dead, I’ll rise again as a hero.”
Mr. Wang also mentioned another company connected to Liu—Liu Xiaoqing Jewelry (Ningbo) Co., Ltd.. This company also raised suspicions because its registered legal representative, Xu Kejun, reportedly used an ID that had been canceled since 2012. Strangely, photos of Xu Kejun and Liu Xiaoqing together were found on social media.
However, on May 15, Liu Xiaoqing broke her silence and responded via her official Weibo account, firmly denying all allegations.
“I do not know Mr. Wang and have never met him. His report is inconsistent with the facts. The People’s Court previously ruled that I had nothing to do with the loan he mentioned. After losing in court, he maliciously reported me and used the internet to stir up public opinion for personal gain,” she wrote.
She also expressed her willingness to cooperate fully with authorities:
“Paying taxes according to the law is every citizen’s duty. I am willing to be reviewed by the tax bureau. My company, Shanghai Benxi Culture Media Center, and I will actively cooperate with the investigation.”
Authorities are now working to determine whether these companies are truly operating businesses or merely tools for falsifying documents and evading taxes. So far, no official conclusion has been announced by the tax authorities.
The future of The Prisoner of Beauty remains uncertain. However, based on online comments—especially on Weibo—many netizens appear skeptical about the accuracy of the accusations. For now, viewers await further clarification from Tencent Video and the drama’s production team.
