LayarHijau– The crime drama Sword Rose (利劍玫瑰), starring Dilraba Dilmurat and Jin Shijia, aired its finale on August 9. Although its ratings trailed behind Yang Yang’s The Immortal Ascension in the same time slot, Sword Rose still achieved an impressive milestone with over 500 million views.

Spoiler warning: This article reveals key details from the ending.

In the series, Dilraba plays Deng Yan, the acting head of the anti-human trafficking unit at the Linshan City Police Department. While solving numerous missing persons cases, she has also been tirelessly searching for her childhood best friend, Lin Ran, who disappeared 24 years ago.

In the finale, Lin Ran’s mother, Zhang Ayi (played by Zhang Jianxin), is struck with Alzheimer’s before she can reunite with her daughter. Mistaking Deng Yan for a young Lin Ran, she warmly fusses over her as if they were back in school days. Overcome with emotion, Deng Yan plays along, calling Zhang Ayi “Mom,” a moment that moved audiences to tears.

The scene grows even more heartfelt when Deng Yan tells her she scored 100 on an exam, prompting Zhang Ayi to cup her face and praise “Ran Ran,” vowing never to be apart again. They lock pinkies in a promise, creating one of the drama’s most touching moments.

Meanwhile, Deng Yan and her team finally dismantle a human trafficking syndicate led by Wu Bin (Feng Peng), vice president of Ding Shun Group. Her cousin Ye Xiuming (Zhang Duo) is killed after being used by the organization. Deng Yan ultimately finds Lin Ran (Li Yangyue), who had been sold to a rural village. Standing by the field, Deng Yan calls out “Lin Ran!” with no response—until she switches to the childhood nickname “Ran Ran,” prompting Lin Ran to look up and smile shyly, marking the case’s closure.

However, the drama never shows Lin Ran’s reunion with her mother, a plotline many viewers had been anticipating. Some called the ending incomplete and even accused it of being “rushed,” while others felt the choice to leave the moment off-screen allowed viewers to imagine the emotional mother-daughter reunion for themselves.
