At a public event, Cheng Yi addressed the negative reviews of The Journey of Legend and urged audiences to take the drama seriously.
“I hope everyone can watch this drama wholeheartedly. For an actor, it’s truly a blessing when people watch a drama or a film with full attention. Don’t just say, ‘oh, he’s acting,’ then leave to eat or wash vegetables for ten minutes and come back for a quick look. If that’s the case, it feels like you’re not really watching this drama at all.
But if you watch it properly, then talk about the story and the characters, it’s obvious that you’ve really followed along. And if after that you say, ‘your acting is terrible,’ I will actually be very grateful to that person. Because that way I can learn another way to perform, and I feel I’ve gained a lot from it,” Cheng Yi said as reported by Sohu.
Synopsis of The Journey of Legend
The story follows Xiao Mingming, a modern-day man who loves martial arts novels but finds his real life dull and painful. One day, he is transported into the world of his own creation, through the character Xiao Qiushui.
In this realm, Qiushui faces countless tragedies: the downfall of the Xiao family, the death of his parents, and the loss of his close friend Tang Rou. From a reckless and naïve youth, Qiushui gradually grows into a true martial hero who fights for justice.
