LayarHijau– New details have emerged about the final hours of Chinese actor Yu Menglong (37), who passed away in Beijing earlier this week. According to local media, the actor spent the evening of September 10 having dinner with several close friends before his sudden death.
Reports state that Yu joined a gathering at a friend’s home with five or six people that night. The get-together continued until late, and around 2 a.m., Yu returned to a bedroom and locked the door. By 6 a.m., when the gathering ended, his friends could no longer find him. As they went downstairs, they discovered Yu’s body. A neighbor walking their dog reportedly witnessed the scene and called the police.
The news shocked the public, especially since Yu’s Weibo account had been active just hours earlier at around 9:30 p.m. on September 10. Only three months ago, in June, he had shared joyful posts celebrating his 37th birthday while attending a concert.
Business records from Tianyancha reveal that all of Yu’s companies had been dissolved—some at the end of 2023, and the remaining ones in July 2024.
Born in 1988 in Ürümqi, Xinjiang, Yu stood 183 cm tall and was widely admired for his good looks. He first entered the spotlight in 2013 as a contestant on the talent show Happy Boys, finishing in the national top ten. His breakout role came in 2017 as Bai Zhen, the elder brother of Yang Mi’s character, in the hit fantasy drama Eternal Love (三生三世十里桃花). He later starred as the male lead in New White Snake Legend and The Love Lasts Two Minds, earning him the nickname of one of the “costume drama gods” of his generation.
However, Yu’s career eventually slowed down. Rumors suggested he had been sidelined for three years after rejecting a female investor. In recent years, fans grew increasingly worried about his health, noting his thin frame and frail appearance in social media updates. There were also unconfirmed claims that he had struggled with depression.
In past interviews, Yu described himself as introverted and highly sensitive. He admitted that after heartbreak, he often isolated himself at home and cried alone, saying he felt as though all the world’s pessimism was directed toward him.
Yu’s passing has left a deep sorrow among his fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry. Still, his legacy lives on through the dramas that made him a beloved figure to audiences in China and beyond.
