LayarHijau.com – Today, Sunday, June 1st, the hashtag 刘浩存吻戏 (Liu Haocun kiss scenes) trended at third place on Weibo. This trend emerged after netizens protested the kissing scenes in the new drama Be Passionately in Love (陷入我们的热恋), starring Liu Haocun and Wang Anyu.
The kissing scenes in this drama largely use the “borrowed kiss” technique — a filming method where camera angles, props, or blocking are used to create the illusion of a kiss without the actors’ lips actually touching.
One popular comment from netizens said:
“The female lead in the original novel is very active and loves kissing. If she really doesn’t want to do kissing scenes, she could have chosen not to take the role. Fans of the novel are indeed a bit disappointed, but this isn’t the actors’ fault, it’s the screenwriter’s.”
On the other hand, some defended Liu Haocun, saying:
“The drama is set in high school. What’s wrong with using borrowed kisses? If you want to borrow, just borrow. If you can, keep borrowing.”
Other viewers reminded that the drama has only just started airing, so people shouldn’t assume that all kissing scenes involving Liu Haocun will use the same technique. They hope audiences will give the show time before jumping to conclusions.
This isn’t the first time Liu Haocun has been part of such discussions. In her previous drama with Lin Yi, Derailement (脱轨), kissing scenes also used borrowed kiss techniques and drew similar criticism. Many viewers feel that while kissing scenes are not always essential, if they are written into the script or expected by fans, they should be portrayed sincerely to stay faithful to the character or original work.
Interestingly, Liu Haocun is not the only actress who has faced criticism over borrowed kisses or reportedly refusing to do real kiss scenes. For example, actress Ju Jingyi has faced similar comments because some of her romantic dramas (like In a Class of Her Own) often film love scenes from a distance or avoid direct contact. Likewise, Wu Xuanyi has reportedly declined kissing scenes in some projects, sparking both support and criticism.
The debate over borrowed kiss scenes once again raises an old question in drama fandoms: how important are real kissing scenes in romance dramas, and how should the balance be struck between actors’ personal boundaries, the needs of the script, and audience expectations? Since Be Passionately in Love is still airing, fans will be watching closely to see if the controversy cools down — or if it heats up even more.

Drama Synopsis:
The story begins in the rainy southern city of Qingyi, where Xu Zhi, the “dark horse” of Ruijun High School, meets Chen Luzhou, the “top scorer with a perfect score.” Due to a misunderstanding, the story between the tough “President Zhi” and the laid-back “poet Chen” begins. As they joke and bicker, an ambiguous atmosphere grows, leading to an intense emotional tug-of-war. However, reality soon pauses their relationship: Chen Luzhou is sent abroad by his family, while Xu Zhi goes to Beijing to study architecture, separating the two.
Fate intervenes when Chen Luzhou gives up studying abroad and returns to China, enrolling in the same university as Xu Zhi. After a long separation, Chen Luzhou confronts his feelings and passionately pursues his “ex-girlfriend,” Xu Zhi. Together, they heal, protect, and fall into an endless, passionate love.
The drama stars Liu Haocun as Xu Zhi and Wang Anyu as Chen Luzhou, supported by Zhang Zihan and Zhou Junwei. It began airing in May 2025 and is available on Tencent Video in China and internationally via WeTV, with some regions also able to watch on Viki.
