LayarHijau– Solo Leveling has become a huge hit internationally, yet it hasn’t managed to grab the same attention in Japan. After earning Anime of the Year for its first season in 2024 and setting streaming records with its second season in early 2025, the series continues to impress audiences overseas.
Surprisingly, Google Trends shows that it didn’t make Japan’s list of the ten most-searched anime for 2025. The top spots went to Takopi’s Original Sin, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, and Sakamoto Days, with other recent releases like The Summer Hikaru Died and The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity following close behind.
This indicates that Japanese viewers are more focused on fresh releases than on a series that has already been widely watched. Solo Leveling’s second season, while highly anticipated, didn’t generate the same level of online searches in its home country as it did abroad.
The ratings support this pattern. During the Winter 2025 anime season, Solo Leveling was outperformed by The Apothecary Diaries, and it failed to appear in Tsumiki Co., Ltd’s mid-year poll of the most popular anime in Japan.
Analysts suggest that the genre’s abundance or audience preferences might explain the series’ modest reception locally. Still, Solo Leveling’s international popularity is undeniable, and a third season is already on the horizon.
Even without topping Japanese search lists, Solo Leveling remains one of the most influential and widely watched anime series of the decade worldwide.
