LayarHijau –The popular Chinese period drama Blood River, starring Gong Jun and Peng Xiaoran, has reached its emotional conclusion, wrapping up a story filled with sacrifice, betrayal, and undying love — and leaving fans across the internet in tears.
Warning: This article contains major spoilers for the final episodes of Blood River.
In episodes 37 and 38, the protagonist Su Muyu (played by Gong Jun) faces his longtime nemesis, Eunuch Zhuo Qing (Yan Su). During their fierce battle, his sworn brother Su Changhe (Chang Huasen) rushes in to help but ends up gravely injured. Seeing his friend on the brink of death, Su Muyu unleashes the forbidden technique known as the “Demonic Sword,” a move that drains his life force. In an instant, his hair turns white as his power surges, finally defeating the eunuch in a devastating clash.
Before striking the final blow, Su Muyu shouts, “Why does the light of this world always reject those from Blood River? No one is born a killer. We only wish for the chance to choose.” His words move Su Changhe to tears, realizing that his friend is ready to give up everything for the sake of redemption.
But the price of that choice is unbearable. As Su Muyu loses control and slips into darkness, his lover Bai Hehuai (Yang Yutong) appears and uses the healing power of “Icy Heart Water” to restore his consciousness. Just when it seems like they’ve won, Bai Hehuai suddenly coughs up blood — she has been poisoned by the Medicine King Valley’s traitor Ye Ya (Zhang Yingbing). The “Human Medicine Poison” has no cure, turning its victims into living puppets before death.
Both lovers collapse. When Su Muyu regains consciousness, he’s told that Bai Hehuai didn’t survive. Without a single line of dialogue, Gong Jun delivers one of his most powerful performances — gasping, trembling, and crying uncontrollably — a raw expression of grief that completely shattered audiences.
Just as fans resign themselves to a tragic ending, the drama delivers a final emotional twist. Twelve years later, Su Muyu visits Bai Hehuai’s grave in the Medicine King Valley. Feeling a strange presence, he turns around to find her standing there — smiling softly, her eyes filled with love. Their tearful reunion closes the story on a bittersweet yet healing note.
The ending quickly went viral on Weibo under the hashtag #BloodRiverEnding, with fans calling it one of Gong Jun’s most moving performances to date. Many commented that they “cried uncontrollably” and praised the series for delivering a finale that balanced heartbreak and hope in perfect measure.
