LayarHijau – The latest drama Love’s Ambition (许我耀眼), starring Zhao Lusi and William Chan, has immediately captured attention since its premiere. Within just four days, the series surpassed The Journey of Legend and reached a Tencent heat index of 30,000, making it the fastest-growing drama in popularity this year.
Equally noteworthy is Wang Yiyao’s performance as Sun Siwei, the antagonist and office rival of Xu Yan (Zhao Lusi). Sun Siwei is portrayed as a scheming colleague who frequently launches verbal attacks and direct maneuvers to undermine Xu Yan. She accuses Xu Yan of only attaining her position thanks to her wealthy husband Shen Haoming (William Chan). When she discovers that Xu Yan has been hiding the truth about her family background to marry into the Shen family, Sun Siwei becomes even more determined to expose her lies.
Unfortunately for Sun Siwei, her efforts repeatedly backfire, as reported by Upmedia. In one scene, she slaps Xu Yan in front of Shen Haoming, only to be humiliated herself. In another, she invites Xu Yan’s “fake father” onto a broadcast to reveal her secrets, but Xu Yan manages to turn the tables. These intense, tension-filled interactions have become one of the main attractions of the drama.
Thanks to her role as Sun Siwei, Wang Yiyao’s popularity has skyrocketed. Baidu Index data shows that the character’s name reached 2 billion searches, making her the most popular supporting character in Love’s Ambition, only behind the main characters Xu Yan and Shen Haoming.
Before Love’s Ambition, Wang Yiyao was already recognized in several popular dramas, even in supporting roles. She played Jin Niangzi in The Legend of Shen Li, Li Miaozhen in Guardians of the Dafeng, and Ban Niang — a terrifying yet alluring owl demon — in The Demon Hunter’s Romance. She also appeared in A Story of Kunning Palace and The Longest Promise. Though often only in cameos or supporting parts, every appearance left a strong impression.
Now, with Love’s Ambition, Wang Yiyao has proven she is more than just a supporting actress. Her intense portrayal of a scheming office rival has made her stand out and contributed significantly to the drama’s overall popularity.
