LayarHijau – The tragic death of Chinese actor Yu Menglong on September 11 continues to stir heated discussions online. Although police have officially closed the case, stating that no criminal activity was involved, conspiracy theories surrounding the cause of his death remain rampant, particularly on overseas forums.
Among those drawn into the rumors is actor Fan Shiqi, who was accused of “backstabbing” Yu Menglong to gain better roles and resources — a claim that has sparked intense controversy among netizens.
Fan Shiqi previously spoke out against online harassment, stressing that the circulating speculations were baseless. Soon after, his studio also released a statement disclosing Yu Menglong’s schedule on the night before the incident. However, the explanation failed to ease public suspicion and only fueled more speculation on social media, WZ Gossip Boy wrote on Baijiahao Baidu.
Interestingly, during the recent Mid-Autumn Festival, Fan Shiqi reappeared on social media after a long period of inactivity. He posted a photo of mooncakes and greeted his fans for the holiday celebration.
But the mood in the comment section was far from festive. In addition to supportive messages from his loyal fans, nearly all of the top-liked comments directly mentioned Yu Menglong — many of them sharp and openly critical.
Reports suggest that since the post went up, Fan Shiqi has been deleting sensitive comments from his feed. Moreover, photos and behind-the-scenes stills of his role in Love’s Ambition (许我耀眼) are now noticeably absent from his account — a move that many netizens interpret as his subtle response to the growing boycott calls among fans.
