In response, on November 17, Beijing Jingdu Law Firm announced that they had been officially appointed by Chongqing Yiningji Film & Culture Co., Ltd. to issue a legal statement and initiate legal action regarding the rumor.
The rumor surfaced following the death of Yu Menglong on September 11, which, although officially declared non-criminal, continued to fuel wild speculation online. Some netizens linked the incident to Chen Duling, claiming that the actress—known for her intelligence and looks—was not actually appearing in public herself, but was instead represented by a high-quality body double wearing realistic silicone masks. According to this theory, the real Chen Duling had already “fallen victim” like Yu Menglong, while the figure seen in public events was only her stand-in.

The netizen who promoted this theory compared footage from Chen Duling’s recent appearances with past recordings, pointing out differences in facial features, ear position, birthmarks, jawline, arm length, and even skin tone. Some also claimed to have heard the real Chen Duling’s crying in the background of her birthday livestream, which they cited as “proof” of the conspiracy.
The legal statement from the law firm emphasized: “Recently, we found that the Bilibili user ‘阴谋论者_’ (Conspiracy Theorist) deliberately created and circulated a series of videos and comments containing false information. Claims such as ‘there is no real Chen Duling,’ ‘mask,’ ‘would the real Chen Duling make this gesture?,’ ‘vocal cord surgery,’ ‘near the fake Chen Duling but controlled and beaten,’ and ‘imitation’ are completely absurd and false. These statements use subtle suggestions and fabricated details to create the so-called ‘replaced by a man’ conspiracy, and are entirely baseless and harmful.”
Public records show that Chen Duling was born in 1993 and graduated from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics with a degree in Aircraft Manufacturing Engineering. She began her acting career with the film The Left Ear (左耳), and also starred in series such as The Glory (雁回时), Fangs of Fortune (大梦归离), and Till the End of the Moon (长月烬明).
